How does one build a forum without stealing another forums posters?

Looks like we see more and more of this ...The Prescription has been a daily read of mine since 2000, I have seen moderators come and go, some ended up being crooks, owners sell the site and start over again, is there really that much money in this forum business?

TOW-OGD-MW, all still nursing the Rx's nipples, will The Shrink do the same?

I think since he's decided to stick around and be just a regular poster (wink wink) its obvious he plans on trying the same tactics he fought so hard to prevent.

The US Government makes it illegal for you to bet, not post where you want on the internet. A Forum owner would be very blinkered if he thought people only viewed one site.

Just curious Shrink...where did you spend the most money advertising when you owned this forum? I bet there were a lot more avenues and a much better return on your investment back then.

The market/industry is very diluted these days with a lot more competition and a lot less places to advertise.

if i were to start my own site, i would try to buy a mailing list from a couple of sportsbooks. there are tons of people who bet offshore but dont post in forums...

I know that was a great way to build a client base (for books as well) a few years ago. But I hear with spam filters and all that these days, that is not very successful. I also hear books with solid lists aren't about to part with them.

Just curious how Shrink did such a great job of building traffic here. More from a historical perspective...because what worked 5 years ago likely wouldn't work today.
